The short answer
Amaron sells two kinds of starter unit, and a sound choice begins with knowing them: the flooded lead-acid design and the AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) design. Each is engineered for a different sort of vehicle.
Conventional cars run happily on a flooded unit, while AGM exists for newer models with start-stop and a heavy electrical draw. Get the match right and you gain in starting performance, dependability and service life.
Amara Raja Batteries Ltd. builds Amaron, and the stock sold here is a GCC-specification version made for the UAE’s severe climate. We keep and fit the full Amaron line-up throughout Dubai.
What Sets Amaron Apart on the Local Market?
Most makes on sale here put a plain calcium alloy grid in each plate. Amaron swaps that for a silver-calcium alloy instead. The silver slows how fast the electrolyte breaks down and boils off in the heat, so in practice the unit sheds less water through a summer.
Between May and September, engine bays in Dubai can pass 80°C. At that heat an ordinary calcium unit gives up its electrolyte far faster than an Amaron does, and that is a measured effect rather than advertising.
A 2023 Battery Energy paper traced faster decline in hotter lead-acid cells to wear on their electrodes and grids.
Owners tend to notice 3 things once they switch to Amaron:
- It keeps going longer than the cheap unbranded units sold in spare parts markets.
- A higher CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) figure gives a dependable start, even after a July day in an open car park at JBR or the Mall.
- Depending on the range, cover lasts 12, 18 or 24 months and includes one free replacement, which we honour locally.
Amaron’s Two Families
Type 1: Flooded Lead-Acid Amaron Units
The flooded Amaron follows a design more than 150 years old. Lead plates sit in liquid sulphuric acid inside a vented plastic case, and as the unit charges and discharges, plates and liquid react chemically.
It suits cars with no start-stop, no regenerative braking and no heavy electronics, charging from an ordinary alternator. Daily driving is well within its reach, including the queues on Emirates Road, Al Ittihad Road and the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed highway.

Type 2: AGM Amaron Units
An AGM Amaron works on another principle. Rather than sloshing acid, the electrolyte is soaked into a dense fibreglass mat packed between the plates. Nothing liquid moves about inside, and the case is sealed completely.
That construction deals with 3 weaknesses of the flooded design:
- Evaporation in the heat. With no free liquid there is nothing to boil away, so a sealed AGM holds its electrolyte however hot the bonnet gets, where a flooded unit loses water faster the hotter it runs.
- Start-stop cycling. Cars with start-stop cut the engine at each red light and fire it again moments later. A flooded unit was never meant for that and wears out early, and by Battery Tender's reckoning an AGM survives roughly twice as many deep discharges and bounces back more cleanly after each one.
- Internal resistance. A fresh AGM has lower internal resistance than a flooded unit of the same size. Lower resistance sends more current to the starter, recharges faster after each start and creates less heat inside under load.
Amaron sells its AGM line as JADE, and we fit it in two groups of sizes:

How Dubai’s Heat Kills a Mismatched Unit
Failures here bunch up in a pattern you can predict by season. Knowing it lets you swap the unit before it strands you rather than afterwards.
| Season | Temperature Range | Risk to the unit |
|---|---|---|
| October to February | 18 to 28°C | Low. Units recover and keep their charge. |
| March to April | 28 to 38°C | Moderate. Weak units begin to show strain. Test now. |
| May to June | 38 to 44°C | High. Worn units give out fast. |
| July to September | 44 to 48°C | Critical. The busiest time of year for failures in Dubai. |
March or April is the ideal window to test or replace, ahead of the fiercest summer heat.
In a flooded unit, heat drives off water, which concentrates the acid and corrodes the plates. Capacity falls and starts can fail, particularly when the shade reading goes beyond 40°C.
AGM designs cope better with heat, since the electrolyte is locked into fibreglass mats where it cannot evaporate, and that makes them tougher in a harsh climate.
Which Amaron Family Belongs in Your Car?
Three checks settle it. Start with the year the car was built. Next, see whether it has start-stop, shown by a dashboard button carrying a circled letter A. Last, read the label on the unit under the bonnet: it will say Flooded, Lead-Acid or AGM.
| Car or situation | Amaron to fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Camry (pre-2018), Nissan Sunny, Mitsubishi Lancer | Amaron Hi-Life or Black | No start-stop and a light electrical load. |
| Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol, Ford F-150 | Amaron Hi-Life, large sizes | A big engine wants high CCA to start every time. |
| BMW 3/5 Series, Mercedes C/E Class, Audi A4/A6 | Amaron AGM | AGM from the factory. A flooded unit triggers charging faults. |
| Toyota Camry (2018+), Honda Accord (2019+), VW Passat | Amaron AGM | Start-stop comes as standard. |
| Lexus LX, Range Rover, Porsche Cayenne | Amaron AGM, large sizes | Heavy electronics, start-stop and long spells parked. |
| Toyota Prius, Lexus ES300h (hybrid 12V auxiliary) | Amaron AGM | A hybrid needs an auxiliary unit that handles deep cycling. |
| Taxi fleets (18+ hours daily) | Amaron Hi-Life or AGM | Non-stop cycling calls for the toughest option. |
Seven Warning Signs an Amaron Is Due for Retirement
Should the car display one of the 7 signs below, it is time for a fresh unit. Dubai’s climate brings them on sooner than a cooler country would.
- Sluggish cranking first thing in the morning. The engine turns lazily before it catches, most obviously when the car has stood outdoors overnight in a lot where heat has been building for days.
- A battery light on the dash. In modern cars the Battery Management System (BMS) picks up falling voltage before the driver feels anything. If the light comes on, have the unit tested that day.
- A case that has bulged or swollen. Overheating has built up gas inside, and that is a safety hazard. Change it straight away.
- Blue or white crusting around the posts. Humid sea air around the Marina, JBR and Jumeirah Beach Road speeds this up, and the deposits raise resistance and cut the power that gets through.
- Headlights that dim at idle. If they brighten when you rev, the unit has lost so much reserve that the alternator cannot make up for it at low RPM.
- Glitches in the infotainment or ADAS. Once voltage drops under 12V, parking cameras, sensors and touchscreens start misbehaving, and cars with several assistance systems are the most sensitive.
- Age: beyond 3 years for flooded or 5 years for an AGM unit. Locally, treat those as the practical end of life. Changing early costs far less than a call-out at the roadside.
Fitted Amaron Prices in Dubai: 2026 Reference
Fitted, an Amaron costs between AED 240 and AED 850. With us, that figure covers delivery, professional fitting, BMS registration if your model requires it, and taking away the old unit, with no extra labour charge on top.
| Range | Design | Capacity | Warranty | Fitted price (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amaron Fresh | Flooded | 35 to 60Ah | 12 months | AED 240 to 340 |
| Amaron Hi-Life | Flooded | 42 to 105Ah | 18 months | AED 280 to 420 |
| Amaron Black | Flooded | 50 to 100Ah | 24 months | AED 350 to 480 |
| Amaron AGM (start-stop) | AGM | 60 to 95Ah | Up to 24 months | AED 520 to 750 |
| Amaron AGM (heavy load) | AGM | 70 to 100Ah | Up to 24 months | AED 620 to 850 |
Cost over time: one Amaron AGM costing AED 650, spread across 5 years, comes to AED 130 a year. Buying a new car battery twice over, two Hi-Life units at AED 370 each over the same 5 years, costs AED 148 a year. The AGM also saves you a further breakdown and another fitting visit. Keep a car past 4 years and the AGM is the cheaper one to own overall.
Six Habits That Stretch Any Amaron’s Life
These 6 habits help flooded and AGM units alike. Stick to them and whichever Amaron you run will last longer.
- Use shaded parking whenever you can. Battery University's guideline is that every 8°C of extra heat cuts a sealed unit's working life in two, so every degree of shade counts. Covered bays at DIFC and Mall of the Emirates make a real difference across a whole summer.
- Have it tested every 6 months. We run a free digital load test with every inspection. Book one in April, before the peak, and another in October, once it has passed. A load test shows how the unit performs under a real current draw, not just its voltage at rest.
- Cut down on trips shorter than 5km. Short hops around Arabian Ranches or Jumeirah give the alternator no real chance to top the unit up. Over weeks these shallow discharges wear capacity down, so group small errands into one longer drive where you can.
- Clean the terminals, keep them firmly tightened, and spray them with terminal protector after each clean. Copper-sulphate corrosion forms quickly in humid coastal air, especially near the sea, and corroded terminals add resistance and sap useful output.
- Disconnect parasitic loads before long lay-ups. Aftermarket alarms, dashcams and GPS trackers pull a small but steady current, and over 3 or more days parked it adds up. The long Eid holidays catch many owners out this way.
- Put a smart trickle charger on a stored car. It holds the Amaron at full charge without overcharging it, which matters for cars left in warehouse lots or at Autodrome for 2 weeks or longer.

Common Questions
What service life does each Amaron family give here?
A flooded Amaron gives 2 to 3 years and an AGM 4 to 6. Each outlives an unbranded unit by 6 to 12 months, since the silver-calcium alloy holds back grid corrosion and water loss through long spells of heat.
Should my car have a flooded or an AGM Amaron?
Go AGM if the car was built after 2015, has start-stop, or is a European luxury make such as Porsche, Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz. Everything else, notably Korean and Japanese sedans from before 2015 that lack start-stop, runs properly on the flooded range.
Will a flooded Amaron work in a BMW or Mercedes?
No. These cars have a smart alternator that sets its output according to the unit’s type and condition. A flooded unit feeds it the wrong information, the charging goes wrong, the unit wears out in under 12 months and warning lights appear on the dash. We confirm the correct specification before every fitting.
Does an AGM Amaron need coding after fitting?
On most European cars, and on many Japanese and Korean models built after 2015, yes. Our technicians carry OBD diagnostic tools and register the new unit with the car’s BMS while fitting it. Skip that step and the smart alternator keeps charging to the old unit’s profile, which cuts the AGM’s life considerably.
How does Amaron compare with Varta or Bosch in the heat?
All 3 sell units built for hot markets. Amaron’s grids use its silver-calcium SilvenX alloy, and Varta and Bosch both offer AGM for the cars that need it, as Amaron does. In the end the decision usually rests on what fits the car, the warranty on offer and what is in stock, and we talk through all 3 before we fit anything.
How soon can you fit an Amaron?
Our mobile crew gets to most of Dubai, including Dubai Hills, DIFC, Deira, Al Quoz and JBR, within 45 minutes of a booking. Once there, the swap takes 20 to 30 minutes, and we offer same-day fitting on all 7 days of the week.
