Mercedes-Benz - CLAMercedes CLA200 Battery Replacement in Dubai
Under the coupé bodywork a CLA200 is an A-Class, and it has an A-Class electrical system: an AGM main battery under a cover in the engine bay, a small auxiliary battery that throws most of the warnings, and on 2023-on cars a 48V unit as well. We test all of them at your location in Dubai before a price is given, then fits and registers the one that has actually failed.

Mercedes CLA200 by Generation
The name stayed the same, the electrical system did not. Find the years your car was built in and the differences that matter.
The first CLA, on the W176 A-Class platform with the 1.6 litre M270 turbo. AGM main battery under the bonnet cover and a small auxiliary unit that varies in position by build date.
Second generation on the W177 A-Class platform, with the 1.33 litre M282. Larger main battery, MBUX in the cabin, and an auxiliary unit owners most often find behind the passenger footwell trim.
The petrol CLA200 becomes a 48V mild hybrid. A compact lithium 48V battery joins the 12V main and auxiliary units, so there are three batteries and three ways to be stranded.
An A-Class in a Coupé Suit
Mercedes builds the CLA and the A-Class on the same platform, and the electrical architecture comes with it. That is good news for a CLA200 owner in Dubai: the parts are common, the failure patterns are well understood, and we have done this job on a great many W176 and W177 A-Class cars already.
The main battery is not in the boot, where most people look. It is in the engine bay under a plastic cover on the passenger side, in a tray shared with the A200. Beside it, or behind the footwell trim depending on the year, sits the small auxiliary battery that keeps the electronics alive during a start-stop restart.
The 1.33 litre and 1.6 litre engines in this car start on very little current, which is a mixed blessing. A tired battery keeps starting the CLA200 long after it would have failed to start a bigger car, so the first symptoms are electrical rather than mechanical, and they are easy to dismiss.
What Changed Between C117 and C118
Two generations, two platforms, and a facelift that added a whole voltage level.
| Item | C117 (2013-2019) | C118 (2019 on) |
|---|---|---|
| Platform shared with | W176 A-Class | W177 A-Class |
| Engine | 1.6 M270 turbo | 1.33 M282 turbo |
| Main battery | AGM, engine bay | AGM, engine bay, larger |
| Auxiliary battery | Yes, position varies | Yes, typically footwell |
| 48V mild hybrid | No | From the 2023 facelift |
| Infotainment | COMAND | MBUX, a heavier standing load |
We read the VIN before the visit so the technician arrives with the right main battery, and the auxiliary unit if the test calls for it.
The Electrical Symptoms Come First on a CLA200
Because the engine keeps starting, watch the systems rather than the starter.
- Start-stop that never engages, the earliest and most reliable warning on this car
- MBUX or COMAND rebooting on its own, or taking a long time to wake
- An auxiliary battery malfunction message, which points at the small unit rather than the main one
- Ambient lighting or the instrument cluster flickering on a cold start
- Keyless entry that becomes slow to respond, then intermittent
- A battery over two years old on a car parked outdoors through a Dubai summer
The Work Done at Your Door
The whole job at your home, office or the roadside, with nothing to arrange afterwards.

- Tests All of It FirstMain battery, auxiliary battery and the charging system, and on facelift cars the health of the 48V unit as reported by the car. You are quoted for the part that failed.
- Brings the Correct AGMThe right capacity and case for your generation, in stock, so there is no second visit and no substitute that half fits.
- Registers the BatteryThe car's battery management system is told it has a new battery, so it charges it properly from the first drive rather than nursing a battery it thinks is old.
- Leaves Nothing BehindWarnings cleared, start-stop confirmed working, clock and settings restored, and the old battery taken away for licensed recycling.
From Your Call to a Coded Battery
Year and VIN
Tells us which generation you have and which batteries to bring.
Technician to You
Anywhere in Dubai, 24 hours a day, typically within about 30 minutes.
Test, Then Quote
All batteries and the alternator measured. If the main battery is fine and the auxiliary has failed, that is what you pay for.
Fit and Register
New AGM fitted under the bonnet cover, coded to the car, and the systems checked before the technician leaves.
Mercedes CLA200 Battery Questions
In the engine bay, under a plastic cover on the passenger side, in the same position as the A-Class the car is based on. It is not in the boot. The small auxiliary battery is separate and its position depends on the build date.
Because the small auxiliary battery, not the main one, has dropped below the voltage the car expects. It is a separate part and replacing the main battery will not clear the message. We test both, then replace whichever has failed.
The petrol CLA200 from the 2023 facelift is a 48V mild hybrid, so yes, there is a compact lithium 48V battery in addition to the 12V main and auxiliary batteries. It is not a user-serviceable part in the way the 12V units are, and its health is read from the car during our test.
An AGM of roughly 70Ah on the C117 and up to about 80Ah on the C118, in the case the tray is built for. Because equipment level changes the answer, we confirm it from your VIN rather than from the badge.
Yes. We do the entire job at your location, including the coding step that most people assume needs a workshop. You do not need to drive the car anywhere, and if it will not start we come to where it is.
Two to three years is realistic in Dubai's heat, against four or five in a cool climate. A car that is parked outdoors and driven short distances is at the lower end. We test batteries free, so a check every six months past the two-year mark costs nothing.
Not Your Model?
We fit batteries across the whole Mercedes-Benz range, and the marque page lists every model we cover.

CLA200 Playing Up? Have All Three Batteries Tested
Wherever the car is in Dubai, a technician tests the main, auxiliary and 48V systems, then fits and registers the correct AGM there and then. Call or WhatsApp, day or night.
