Mercedes-AMG A35 Battery Replacement in Dubai

There is only one A35, which makes the specification unusually clean for a Mercedes. What is not clean is the drain: AMG hardware keeps drawing while the car is parked, and that is what shortens batteries on this model. We come to you with the right AGM and code it before leaving.

Which One Is Yours

Mercedes-AMG A35 by Generation

Unusually for a Mercedes, there is only one answer here. The A35 has only ever been built on one platform, so the year matters far less than it does elsewhere in the range.

W1772019 - present

The only A35 there has ever been. M260 2.0 turbo, 4MATIC as standard, AMG damping and drive modes. If you own an A35, this is your car, which removes most of the guesswork from ordering the right battery.

Facelift2023 onward

Revised electronics and a larger screen package. Same AGM class, but a further step up in standing load, so a battery that sits unused suffers faster.

The A35 Drains While It Sleeps

Every modern Mercedes draws current when parked. The A35 draws more than most small cars, because the things that make it an AMG are electrical: adaptive dampers with their own control unit, an electronically managed 4MATIC rear axle, drive-mode hardware, and a sensor count well beyond a standard A-Class.

None of that is a fault. It is simply what the car is. But it means an A35 left standing for two or three weeks, which is common enough in Dubai over the summer, can go from healthy to unwilling without anything being wrong.

It also means the battery has less margin. A unit that would soldier on for another year in an A200 is already borderline in an A35, which is why AMG owners tend to meet the problem earlier than the badge would suggest.

What Battery Trouble Looks Like on an A35

AMG systems are the first to complain, so the warnings tend to arrive as drivetrain messages rather than as a slow starter.

Signs a Mercedes-AMG A35 battery is failing
  • Drive-mode or suspension warnings that appear on start-up and clear once the engine is running
  • Start-stop refusing to engage, which is the earliest and most reliable sign
  • 4MATIC or ESP messages that come and go with no change in how the car drives
  • An auxiliary battery malfunction message, which is the small unit rather than the main battery
  • The car needing a longer crank after standing for a week or more
  • A battery past two years old on a car that spends the summer parked

Why We Test Before Quoting an A35

On an AMG, a flat battery and an electrical fault produce very similar symptoms, and only one of them is fixed by selling you a battery.

Load Test, Not a Voltage Reading

An A35 battery can read healthy at rest and still fail to turn the engine warm. We test it under load, which is the only reading that means anything.

Parasitic Draw Measured

If the car flattens itself while parked, the battery may be the victim rather than the cause. We measure the standing draw.

Auxiliary Unit Checked

The small 12V 13Ah AGM is a separate part on its own lifecycle. Replacing the main battery will not clear an auxiliary fault.

Charging System Verified

Alternator output confirmed before a new battery goes anywhere near the car.

Step by step

Calling Us About an A35: What Happens

Technician replacing a Mercedes AMG battery
  1. Build Confirmed

Year and whether it is pre or post facelift, so the correct AGM leaves with the technician.
  2. Tested on Site

Main battery under load, auxiliary unit, alternator output and standing draw.
  3. Installed and Registered

Registered to the battery management system, without which the charging profile stays set for the old battery.
  4. Checked and Documented

Drive modes and start-stop confirmed working, warnings cleared, invoice and warranty issued.

If the Car Sits, Use a Maintainer

The single most useful thing an A35 owner in Dubai can do is put the car on a smart maintainer when it is going to stand for more than a fortnight. It costs less than one premature battery and it removes the most common cause of AMG battery failure here.

Short trips are the other half of the problem. A ten-minute run to the shops does not replace the charge that starting the engine took, and on a car with this much standing load the shortfall is larger than usual. If the A35 is your weekend car, an occasional longer drive does more good than it does on an ordinary hatchback.

The test is free of charge, so if yours has been standing through the summer it is worth knowing where it stands before the first cool morning finds out for you.

From Mercedes-AMG A35 Owners

What Drivers of This Model Say

  • Left the A35 at DXB for three weeks in August and came back to a dead car. …came to the car park, tested it rather than just replacing it, and explained why an AMG drains faster when it sits. Fitted the new one and coded it there and then.

    Hamdan A. - Mercedes-AMG A35 owner
  • Kept getting suspension and 4MATIC warnings that cleared once it was running. Two people told me it was a sensor. It was the battery, and the technician proved it with a load test before selling me anything.

    Reem F. - Mercedes-AMG A35 owner
  • Booked at nine in the evening, technician arrived within half an hour in Downtown, and the whole thing including the coding took about twenty five minutes. No upsell, no drama.

Questions

Mercedes-AMG A35 Battery Questions

No. The A35 arrived with the W177 in 2019 and there was never a W176 version, so unlike the A200 or A45 there is only one platform to identify. We still check the VIN, because the facelift cars carry a heavier electronics package.

No. The A35 needs AGM. EFB is a step below and is not rated for the cycling that AMG start-stop and 4MATIC put through the battery. Fitting one will give you a short and expensive life.

Possibly, but not necessarily permanently. AMG hardware draws while the car sits, so three weeks in Dubai can flatten a healthy battery. We will test it before recommending replacement, and if it recovers you have not bought a battery you did not need.

Yes, the same separate 12V 13Ah AGM unit as the rest of the A-Class. It supports the electronics through a start-stop restart and can fail on its own. An auxiliary battery malfunction message refers to that unit and not to the main battery.

Yes. Without registration the charging system carries on running the profile it learned for the old battery, which shortens the life of the new one from the first drive. The technician codes it at the roadside as part of the job.

Some stored settings can reset when power is disconnected. Our technicians use a memory saver where the car supports it and will tell you beforehand if anything is likely to need setting again.
